Employment Legal Consulting Help
We offer information on how to obtain employment and legal consulting help here. Please contact us for more information or to discuss your situation.
What should I do if I'm not sure my problem is a legal one?
It can be difficult to know if an issue is a legal one—and it is not necessary that you make this determination. Since our firm provides one complimentary consultation, contact us and let the legal experts help you determine whether the problem requires legal, negotiation, consulting, or other support.

How do you work with your clients?
For both individuals and organizations, we hold an initial meeting or virtual conference (at your convenience, including evenings and weekends) to review the situation, learn the desired outcomes, and meet those involved, as needed.

After that discussion, we will meet with you again to discuss next steps, risks, benefits, and other pertinent information, including estimated time, duration, and fees. Given the uniqueness of each situation, we are unable to generalize or provide specifics without discussing these details with you.

What should we do to prepare for an initial meeting with you?
-
For individuals, it is helpful if you bring us copies of all relevant documents such as offer letters, employment agreements, HR policies, performance reviews, and disciplinary notices (if any). Take a few moments to write down your thoughts concerning the situation you are facing, what has been done so far, and the goals you have for its resolution. Understanding what you want to accomplish will help us organize and focus our approach and services to meet your needs.
-
For organizations, the preferred preparation is similar to that for individuals, including providing copies of documents and deciding what your ultimate goals are.

What are some typical situations or circumstances that people hire you to help them with?
Our consulting services develop and enhance individual skills or those of your organization’s employees. Situations in which our consulting can be helpful include:

-
Have you or your organization participated in leadership development recently? There is probably no more important training in which your organization could invest, both for itself and the performance of its current and future leaders.
-
Are you or your organization diverting valuable time and energy to urgent personnel matters? The areas we support include performance management and appraisal, how to deal with difficult people, and team-building. These short-term investments have long-term pay offs because they contribute to employee retention, increased morale, improved productivity, and less absenteeism.
-
Do you need a fresh eye to review situations, goals, opportunities, or challenges? We can bring new and innovative ideas to the table that you may not be able to see because you are so close to the situation.
-
Do you have the necessary depth of skills or expertise in-house? You many not need that depth or focus on an ongoing basis, so hiring it only when needed is cost-effective.
-
Do you have the manpower needed on staff? We can serve as temporary, highly skilled resources. Because we work with a variety of companies and change projects often, we’re used to getting up-to-speed quickly to become productive and effective

Where can I find out more about federal and state employment laws?
-
For federal laws, a good place to start is the US Department of Labor’s FAQs page. This includes information about the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and similar nationwide laws.
-
For example, in New York State, Employment Laws known as Labor Standards covers basic issues. Related issues are covered under the NYS Department of Labor FAQs page.
-
Another option is to search Google with words describing the issue you are concerned about, such as disability, discrimination, Family and Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, employer retaliation, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, severance agreements, non-compete / restrictive covenants, etc.
When using the Internet, please be sure you are reading information from a reputable source. You should take no action concerning employment legal and consulting information you find on the Internet without first contacting the appropriate professional about your particular situation.
